Mrs. Urmila Kumar

1 July, 1939 – 3 February, 2022

One of the great rewards of being a member of an organization like Indraprastha Horticulture Society is the calibre of people you have the honor of interacting with. In the early years of IHS, some wonderful people joined the society as members. Urmil ji as she was fondly called was one of them.  What distinguished her from most members from the very beginning was that her heart, head, and hand were at work in an astounding number of dimensions to promote the power of horticulture and gardens.

What soon was no secret to her fellow members, was Urmila ji’s   deeply considered intelligence and careful attention to detail. A life-long tree enthusiast and passionate gardener, she was liked by one and all for her graciousness, easy nature, gardening knowledge and kind wisdom. Urmila ji was active and generous with her time for anything associated with the society. She was a master of Ikebana and every year she used to give lectures on Ikebana for IHS members.

Urmil ji had a spirit of never to stop learning. She was a member of the Indian Bonsai Association, the Cacti society, the All India Kitchen Garden Association, and the Indraprastha Horticulture Society

Those who had the good fortune of visiting her house will remember her beautiful paintings, her lovely flower arrangements, her well-manicured plants and very gracious hospitality. An avid gardener, she had a huge collection of bonsai and other plants. She was always on time, a good yoga practitioner, a great personality, always smiling, happy and cheerful human being.

Urmil ji would always inspire IHS members to do better and better. She was greatly loved by all that met her and will be missed by many. She will always remain alive in our hearts

Our best tribute to this lovely personality would be that we try to be soft-spoken gentle and hardworking like her and strive for excellence in whatever we do.
