Indraprastha Horticulture Society recently held a very successful three day gardening workshop for children. The workshop was conducted from 14th-16th June 2022. It was planned keeping in mind the fact that children are the inheritors of planet earth, and for the earth to be a place of sustainable living, children need to be taught the requisite skills.
In the three days, children participated in creative activities and also learnt ways to achieve sustainable gardening. Participants in the workshop made many items with their hands and took home their crafted pieces. It gave children time to be active and experience nature in its basic form. Children filled soil in pots, sowed seeds and planted saplings, thus getting their hands dirty and truly experiencing the art of gardening.
At the workshop children learnt:
- Soil Preparation
- Seed sowing
- Correct method of potting plants
- Basic knowledge about plants
- Names of some house plants
- Propagation of plants in water
- Making garden accessories
- Compost making from kitchen waste
- Bottle art using recycled bottles
- How to create a water garden
- How to create a rock garden
and much more……
It wasn’t only the children who had a wonderful experience. Adults and assistants present during the three days too had fun interacting and teaching the young children.
IHS volunteers worked very hard to make the workshop, a part of the 25th year celebrations of the Indraprastha Horticulture Society , a resounding success.
